I have many years of experience working with children and young adults, combining music and Spanish. This includes my work as a Spanish Immersion second grade and fourth grade teacher, my years as a Spanish teacher which included singing with my teenage students, and most recently, 22 years teaching kindergarten through second grade music. There I regularly included activity-oriented songs in Spanish and other languages into my daily plans and student concerts.
This last experience is what would qualify me most for doing performances with in libraries with in our local region Sourth Puget Sound, My performances could promote
language acquisition in English and Spanish
multicultural awareness
community and family togetherness
musical development in individual participants
connections between movement and musical elements and emotional expression
I have the flexibilty and broard knowledge to adapt a performane -even on e in progress to fit the audience.
I include:
short easy songs with repetition and movement
longer songs requiring more time to learn
zipper songs where participsnts help make up new verses (fillin the blanks style)
songs using percussion or sound effects
songs with hand motions or full body movements
Back up materials to help readers and non readers follow along. Working with young children already requires that range of supportive materials, iengaging song choices; working with all ages,would be similar though adults if outnumbered would need to find their "inner children"
I will outline here how a typical bilingual activity oriented performance might look. With less detail, I will outline a multicutural format and an English only/mostly one.
