Welcome! For over two decades, I've put my music on the back burner to focus on my teaching career and on raising my beautiful daughter, now nearly 26 years old. I have been told my songs have a unique quality that has reached people around the world.  "Smooth and poignant" says Larry R from the UK, and "something to say" says Sandra in Michigan. "A beautiful collection of songs and sounds," says songwriter and recording artist Linda Waterfall.  My recording, Down To Earth, is a polished CD with singing and arrangements that go beyond what I can replicate in real life these days.

Here are links to hear or download my songs at no cost. These include songs from my CD Down to Earth along with some of my newer and (way!) older songs, including my four-song cassette from way back in 1982.  Some have been released, though only limited audience. Not a limited time offer! Share them with friends.

Though I would love to sell my music, much more important is for people to hear it- that's what it was made for.  I believe it will stand the test of time, somewhat beyond my lifetime, if I can only get it out there. Now that I am retired from teaching, I plan to get many more recorded and polished into their final versions.

Thanks for your interest!   All the best to you, good health and happiness. Betsy

*Regarding Kelly Ray Smith   I recorded many of the basic tracks on my own and had the final word in the mixdown process. However, I think I failed to fully acknowldge Kelly's amazing contribution towards making this CD so strong in its fluidity, sound quality  and even the content. I refined it to my particular tastes, but the Kelly's genius and musical ear were the foundation for  the effects, track choices, integration of instrumentals and more. His support and brilliant suggestions were vital to the project. Rest in peace, Kelly. You left us way too soon. Also vital to the project was David Whaler-Edwards, who also passed on  several years ago. His creative guitar back-up and t was essential to creating the basic tracks for Down to Earth, not to mention the friendship, emotional support and good humor he offered towards the completion of the project. A truehearted friend.

REVIEWS OF DOWN TO EARTH CD

Linda Waterfall of Seattle, WA, wrote...

"Betsy Wellings' recording "Down to Earth" is a special treat for songwriting aficionados. Her voice is beautiful, and along with that, the songs are so strong. I particularly love The Road Not Taken, but there are several that have really grabbed me. They have heart. The music sounds effortless and joyous, but the songs themselves, their structure, how well they are put together, are testimony to a lot of thoughtful time and work. With repeated listenings, they just get better. A beautiful collection of songs and sounds."

David M. Meyers, Davis (California) Enterprise wrote..."I can't use the word folk enough in describing how much I like this disc. Never louder than acoustic, never too complex to be easily understood, Wellings delivers a refreshing blast of folk, the likes of which hasn't been seen or heard for 30 years. Her voice projects as a lovely cross between Karen Carpenter and Dolly Parton....Songs about resisting age, corporate muck and large noses give this disc just the right mix of heavy and light, while varied winds and strings are a delicate supplement to voice and guitar. --

According to Bill Fisher, Olympia, Washington... "After a first listening, you may think you've bought the perfect relaxation disk, gentle songs sung by a nearly fragile but heart-filled alto voice over sweet harmonies and simple but effective instrumentation. And then you listen more deeply, like looking more deeply into the seeming stillness of a tidepool, and discover how alive the songwriting tradition is here. These are masterfully crafted songs whose seductive melodies often belie a range of wisdom, feeling and even biting wit that is rare among singer-songwriters. Surely there will come a day when fans rush back to this CD to hear the first recording and from covers to hear the first versions. Beat them and you'll be glad you did!! "
