LeMat revolvers are made from a combination of material and components. The overall length is around thirty-five inches and the weight is approximately four and a half ounces. As most revolvers of this type come with a single or two round chambers.

The basic parts are stainless steel with grips or other designs made of leather. There are also metallic finishes and leather with silver finishes. Most are square in shape with a comfortable grip surface on one side and a solid cylinder with a trigger guard on the other.

Since the firing pin is hidden in the cylinder, the hammer has to be cocked when the trigger is pulled.

The two-stage firing mechanism has a lever that pulls the hammer back and then a small lever that locks the hammer back. This second stage functions like a switch which activates the firing pin. The mechanism allows the user to fire the gun manually, allowing them to not rely on the firing pin.

It comes with a rear cocking serrated part to permit the rear part of the revolver to be removed and shot with buckshot without using a gun safe.

The other most popular version of the LeMat is the "Mancini". These have a double action trigger that operates the hammer and a single stage cylinder that allow the user to cock and un-cock the gun. It does not come with a safety as the triggers are very small.
