In 2020, in celebration of Octavia E. Butler’s birthday, the Octavia Lab began making coloring pages to celebrate lesser-known heroes in California. The Lab's mission was "to bring joy to our communities by celebrating and amplifying unheard voices." In 2021, the Octavia Lab released a follow-up edition to the popular coloring book, both of which BEST Friends of LAPL helped to publish.
