Hidden Heroes, Historic Places
In 2020, in celebration of Octavia E. Butler’s birthday, the Octavia Lab began making coloring pages to celebrate lesser-known heroes in California. The Lab's mission was "to bring joy to our communities by celebrating and amplifying unheard voices."
In December 2020, BEST Friends of LAPL partnered with the Octavia Lab to publish a coloring book of these pages called Hidden Heroes, Historic Places.
Media coverage of the groundbreaking coloring book:
LAPL Blog, "Octavia Lab Presents Hidden Heroes"
The Eastsider LA, "Library coloring book highlights LA heroes and history"
Spectrum News 1, "LAPL Honors the 'Hidden Heroes' of Los Angeles in Coloring Book"
Spectrum News 1, "LA Public Library Coloring Book Illustrates LA's Diverse, Hidden History"
You can purchase the book on Amazon and at the Library

All proceeds from the sale go to support the Business & Economics, and Science, Technology & Patents departments at LAPL Central.
