HUTCHINS REMODEL

Remodeled basement guest room with built-ins.

These custom-made doors separating the dining area from the den were an interesting project. Rather than using a typical bi-fold pivot and track installation, I added hinges at the door jamb on each side. This allowed us to do without the track at the top, but more importantly, it allows the doors to swing free and open all the way.

Here's how the doors look standing open. This method makes for a clean look, makes the opening a bit bigger, and lets the doors fold flat against the wall. In the end, the extra effort paid off, and created a unique detail.

Remodeled bath, with some custom craftsman details, period trim, built-in storage cabinet. All new fixtures, new window, etc. combine modern function with period style.

We replaced all of the nearly 100-year-old double-hung windows on the main floor with Marvin inserts. This kitchen window was a bit more involved. First off, the brand new kitchen cabinets and counter tops were already in, so protecting these finished surfaces was a high priority. We removed the existing aluminum slider, re-framed the opening, and installed the new window. This unit is a tilt-out awning style sash, providing ventilation and summer cooling while maintaining an unobstructed picture window view over the sink. Queen Ann divided lights matched existing picture windows in the front entry area.
