BIG Clears & Cleans 2 Gardens, 1 To Go

Post date: Nov 1, 2011 7:15:10 AM

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30 Our community gardens cleanup on Sunday, 10/30, was a great success. Eleven volunteers pitched in, clearing trash, pulling weeds, and planting hundreds of bulbs for the spring. We finished two sites: the intersection of Sheepshead Bay Road and Shore Parkway, and the intersection at Ocean Avenue and Shore Parkway.

Wish you'd been there? There's still time! We have one more site to go, and we need your help, green thumb or not. Please join us for a couple of hours at Voorhies Avenue and the Belt Parkway (Exit 8) on Saturday, November 5, starting at 9am sharp. Bring tools (rakes, shovels, trowels, etc.), if you have them. New volunteers always welcome!

A BIG thank you to Home Depot for the bulbs and supplies, to the NYC Parks Department for use of their tools, to Knapp Street Bagels for free hot coffee and bagels, and to all the volunteers, who showed great community spirit. And an especially BIG thank you to Richie for picking up the plants, bringing tools, and helping us city kids tell a plant from a weed.
