The April 24th 2010 RobotFest at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum MD was a great success.
There were a lot of exhibitors, young & old, who showed their various projects.
Lots of impressive displays, robots & electronics.
I brought my Heathkit HERO 1 (ETW-18) robot, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HERO_%28robot%29, to display in front of my Doepfer modular analog music synthesizer. I've got some work to do to get this unit working as I bought it in May of 2002 in as-is condition from my old electronics school RETS Technical Center, now known as TESST College, so I don't know if it runs, but it is in excellent physical condition. Here's some photos of my robots, http://sites.google.com/site/synthtechproject/Home/my-robots.
I also purchased my first Parallax, www.parallax.com, BASIC Stamp Activity Kit that was part of several kits that were being offered at the event in a Silent Auction that they had last year as well.
Dave Vosh, Greg Kist, Keith Sinzinger, Hal Schmulowitz, Art Harrison & myself all had a great time.
Art played his Theremin, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin, out in the parking for a lot of curious folks.
Dave, Keith, Hal, Art & I played our various analog music synthesizers in the main exhibit hall & provided demos to a lot of curious event goers.
Greg setup his Vocoder, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocoder, system for demonstration which makes your voice sound like a robotic-like voice.
This event gets bigger & better every year.
The R2DC club, the Washington D.C. Metro Area R2-D2 BUILDERS CLUB http://www.r2dc.com/R2DC/Welcome.html, was there,
The HacDC club, DC's Hacker Space http://hacdc.org/, was there,
The Baltimore Harford Hackerspace, http://harfordhackerspace.org/, was there,
The Baltimore Node Hackerspace, http://baltimorenode.org/, who showed of an impressive pneumatic rocket launcher that all the kids had a really great time with launching rockets outside
Paul Smith of Baynesville Electronics, http://www.baynesvilleelectronics.com/, in Towson MD (410-823-0082) was there to let people know that they are a very good source for numerous electronic parts. I buy many of my electronic parts from them on a regular basis & they are really a great group of people to work with.
Check out the 82 photos of the event in the ATTACHMENTS section below.
A special thanks goes out to Gary Mauler & Mike Simons of the National Electronics Museum, www.nationalelectronicsmuseum.org, for having us provide the electronic music sound effects.
Gary, thanks again for letting us setup in the main exhibition hall as this really boosted our exposure to the public.
We really enjoyed ourselves as usual & look forward to participating in the 2011 RobotFest.
