These are our attempts to introduce the Grade 2 (Book 3) classes to our children's class group (most children are not from Bahai families). We try to post activities that we tried to use to help our 7-8 year old children (we have also 2 four-year-old siblings in class) understand the materials in Grade 2 lessons.
Our general class organization is as follows:
Perhaps because we also have younger siblings in class, we are still working on transitions. Sometimes it is hard for students to transition from one activity to another. A warning that we will transition soon seems to help a lot and we need to keep in mind to use it.
We also planned two special events for the end of the semester: 1) performance for the families (where we will be singing songs and saying prayers in front of parents and families); and 2) participating in the Habitat for Humanity playhouse build (a special build for 7-15 year old children where they get to build playhouses for disadvantaged neighborhoods).
We started our year with a brunch where we invited the children with their parents. We had couple of songs, said prayers, then had brunch, and then introduced the class to the parents while children either played in other room or listened. We talked about the Baha'i idea of teaching, what the topics will be, what are the types of activities we will be doing, and introduced our special events planned for the end of semester. Here is the handout that we prepared for our brunch with parents.
