Rally Your Armchair! … World Cup Rally 2001 on TV

In addition to extensive national-newspaper coverage, the revival of the 1970s-concept for a long-distance endurance rally for near-standard production cars received more than three hours of television coverage for the recent London-Sahara-London World Cup Rally.

And it's far from over…if you have missed it, here is the next batch of TV coverage: If you have a Sky dish, you'll have heard of "Men and Motors". There is a series of programmes dedicated to the recent London-Sahara-London World Cup Rally coming up:

Programme One: Saturday 12th January, 9.0pm, repeated Thursday January 17th: Archive footage of past World Cup marathons; Stirling Moss flags off the recent event from Brooklands, the first of four French competitive-sections.

Programme Two: Saturday January 19th, 9.0pm, repeated Thursday, January 24th, 10pm; Into Spain, four spectacular test-sections - those who have never rallied on gravel before provide much entertainment! Then into Morocco.

Programme Three: Saturday January 26th, repeated Thursday, January 31st. The first desert test over 75km long, "simply the hardest, toughest drive I have ever done" - Barbara Armstrong.

Programme Four: Saturday, February 2nd, repeated Thrusday, February 7th: Into the desert, with more long tough sections, cars are starting to suffer…so are the crews…

Programme Five: Saturday, February 9th, 9.0pm, repeated Thrusday, February 14th: From the desert into into the flash-floods, torrents of water and mud, real Safari style! Into Porgugal, for Arganil and Fafe…stings in the tail from the classic Portugese Rally sections…

Programme Six: Saturday, February 16th, 9.0pm, repeated Thursday, February 21st. Final gravel and tarmac test sections, Barbara Armstrong's engine blows up on the last road section… can a tin of bodyfiller patch a hole in the side of the block? Final look back at a memorable 20 days rallying.

The World Cup Rally has, or will also be seen on LWT, Sky News, BBC SE, RTE (Eire), New Zealand TV and Bermudan TV - so far; more to come we hope.
