Instruments Needed
9 to 5 utilizes the following orchestration:
Keyboard 1, 2
Guitar 1*: Electric Guitar, Electric W/Slide, Hollow Body Electric, Mandolin, Nylon Acoustic, Round Neck Dobro, Telecaster
Guitar 2*: Acoustic Guitar, Archtop, Electric Guitar, Hollow Body Electric, Steel String Acoustic, Telecaster
Bass: Acoustic Bass, Electric Bass
Drums: Drum Kit, Mark Tree, Pads, Tambourine, Timbales, Typewriter Pad
Percussion: Alarm SFX, Bells, Bongos, Cabasa, Castanets, Caxixi, Cha Cha Bell, Chimes, Concert Bass Drum, Congas, Cowbell, Crash Cymbal, Crotales, Egg Shaker, Gospel Tambourine, Mark Tree, Medium Shaker, Pads, Ratchet, Rock & Roll Tambourine, Shaker, Slapstick, Snare Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Tam Tam, Tambourine, Temple Blocks, Timpani, Triangle, Vibes, Woodblocks, Xylophone (NOTE: Many of these instruments will be programmed using a MalletKAT synth)

Reed 2^: Baritone Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, Clarinet, Flute, Tenor Saxophone
Trombone
Trumpet 1, 2: Flugelhorn, Trumpet
*You are not required to have all these guitars/instruments, however it’s awesome if you do!

Preliminary Recorded Audition
Please submit a video audition to Google Classroom (code: zykakbk) by Dec 1, 2023 including the following:
For keyboards, winds, guitars, bass, and percussion*:
F# major scale, 2 octaves (16th notes; audible metronome at 100 bpm)
G blues scale, 2 octaves (8th notes, swung; audible metronome at 80 bpm)
1-2 minute excerpt of your choice showcasing your musicianship.
*Perform scales on a keyboard instrument of your choice.
For drums:
Three 1 minute excerpts showcasing playing in the following styles:
Up-Tempo Country
“Slow and Bluesy” (in 12/8)
“Sock ‘Em Swing”
Callbacks
There may be callbacks. Callbacks will be posted by Dec 3, 2023 on Google Classroom. Callbacks will be held at Hart Middle School (D103) on Dec 4 and Dec 5, 4:00-5:30 pm, and will consist of a sight reading excerpt.
Rehearsals
All orchestra only rehearsals are at Hart Middle School, D103.
All other rehearsals are at Amador Valley High School.
Rehearsals will be held at Hart Middle School on Wednesdays, 4:00-5:30 pm:

Sitz-Probe is February 21, 3:45-6:15pm
Orchestra Load-In is tentatively Saturday, February 24, time TBD
Tech Week rehearsals run 4:00-7:00 pm:

Full-Day Rehearsal is Saturday, March 2, 9:00 am-5:00 pm. Lunch will be provided.
Dress Rehearsals run 4:00-7:30 pm (AVHS)

Performances
Performances at the Amador Theater: (call is 2 hours before show)
March 8 (7:00 pm), 9 (7:00 pm), 10 (2:00 pm)
March 15 (7:00 pm), 16 (7:00 pm), 17 (2:00 pm)
Commitment
Depending on the number of auditions and selected musicians for the pit orchestra, we may have the option of “double casting” the orchestra. This allows students to split performances and other services. However, in the event that audition numbers are limited, we may ask that some or all pit orchestra students commit to all performances, and as many rehearsals as possible.
Please review the listed dates and times to ensure that you can make the performances and rehearsals before auditioning. However, I understand that y’all are busy and may not be able to make every single service! I am happy to provide grace and flexibility to a reasonable degree.
