Amador/Foothill Spring Musical Audition Guidelines
CHOOSING A PART TO AUDITION FOR
You do not need to audition for a specific part. If you would like to, use this Character Breakdown to choose a role that matches your range and that you feel comfortable singing.
VOCAL AUDITIONS
Choose any Contemporary (post-1990) musical theater song to audition with. Your song MAY NOT be from The Addams Family. You will sing one verse and one chorus OR between 30 seconds and one minute of the song.
Your audition must be a cappella- meaning you will sing on your own with no accompaniment or backing track. This means you can also choose your own key (how high or low you'll sing your song). You are encouraged to know your starting note and ask for it to be played before you begin singing.
This audition is for you to show off your unique voice, so pick a song and a key that are comfortable for you.
Vocal callbacks will be specific character songs with backing tracks. Sheet music will be provided the day before.
DANCE AUDITIONS
You will learn the dance at the dance audition on Wednesday, 11/20. You must wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that you can dance in. Bring a water bottle!
Some Helpful Hints:
* Memorize your music.
* Show the directors that you can act/move and sing at the same time. Do some research on your song.
* Dress the part—if there is a specific part you’re auditioning for, try to dress similar to that character. If you aren't auditioning for any specific role, dress neutrally, but look nice.
* Don’t stop--no matter what. Show the directors you can cover your mistakes.
* DO NOT make excuses or qualify your talent (i.e.: “I’m a little sick today.”).
* Be on time, act professionally, and don’t ask to leave early. You must attend at least two periods at school each audition day in order to attend any audition (field trips are the exception.)
* Look ahead at the rehearsal schedule.
