University of Antioquia (Medellin, Colombia)

November 16th - 27th, 2020

The AstroTwinCoLO 2020 8th Meeting is the eighth event celebrated as part of the Astronomy Twinning Program between the Leiden Observatory (The Netherlands) and the University of Antioquia (Colombia). The meeting will be ONLINE between November 16and 27th, 2020. Participants from Colombia, and in general from all the Andean region, are welcome to come and participate in the Courses that will be offered during the meeting.

Invited Lecturers

Dr. Cristina García Vergara

Cristina's research interest in astrophysics is the study of the large-scale structure in the distant universe, and the evolution of massive galaxies over cosmic time. In 2016, she finished a Ph.D. in Astrophysics with a double degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the University of Heidelberg in Germany. During this time, she focused her research on the study of quasar environments at z~4. In 2016 she started a postdoctoral position at Leiden Observatory in The Netherlands to work on the measurement of the clustering of submillimeter galaxies using ALMA data. She is currently using LOFAR data to study the dependence of the clustering of radio sources with their physical properties at different cosmic times.

Dr. Aurora Kesseli

Aurora Kesseli is a postdoc at Leiden Observatory in the Netherlands who studies giant exoplanet atmospheres at high spectral resolution. Aurora is originally from Boston in the United States, and she completed her PhD in Astronomy at Boston University in 2019. During her PhD, she studied low-mass stars and brown dwarfs, using spectra from a variety of instruments at both low- and high-resolution in the optical and near-infrared. Aurora is primarily an observational astronomer, and before coronavirus, loved traveling to telescopes for observing runs. Outside of astronomy, Aurora enjoys being outside with her dog and cooking/eating good food.
