c. Adaptive Homework

This study was done in two parts. In the first part Group A received the experimental feedback, then in the second part Group B received the experiment feedback. In order to do this the researchers had to use individual assignments instead of the choose condition. Here are the two conditions. Below you can see how the problem sets were assigned.

This study uses:

    1. Using the individual assignment feature (recruited the school and trained the teachers).

    2. A problem set where there is a set number of problems.

    3. Scaffolding system and feedback message.

The Problem Set

These assignments are assigned using the individual assignment feature.

Each student sees a total of 12 problems as their homework.

This is the problem set for the experiment. The ID for this problem set is PSAMDQP in case you want to make a copy and take a closer look. It has 12 items these problems come directly from the Connected Math text book as you can see by the question numbers. These ones each just have correctness feedback.

This is the problem set for the experiment. The ID for this problem set is PSAKWXB in case you want to make a copy and take a closer look. It has 12 items these problems come directly from the Connected Math text book as you can see by the question numbers. These ones each have the adaptive feedback.

Here is how you assign problem sets.

Here is how you assign the problem sets to groups of students. You can tell it is an Individual Assignment because of the link under the problem set, that will show you the names of the students.

Control

The control group received correctness feedback on their work.

Experiment

The experiment homework was designed with targeted feedback and adaptively. This included automated recurrence of isomorphic problems. As well as direct support following incorrect answers.

This image shows just one form of feedback that a student would get. This is feedback in response to the answer 25.

Here is another example of feedback given in response to a wrong answer. Also note the last problem is an isomorphic question, allowing the student to demonstrate that they understood. In other words they get to do a ReDo. Students who get the original problem correct do not have to do the ReDo.
