Instructor: Dr. Dawnmarie Ezzo
Semester: Fall 2011
During this course, I learned all about what science really means. As a zoology major as an undergraduate, I felt I already had a good handle on it, but we really delved into what makes science different from the other disciplines: the emphasis on the process of science. How scientists create hypotheses, test them, revise them, test them again, and eventually this leads to a theory. I really learned how to take this process and teach it to my students.
Work Sample: Long Term Group Investigation: Greenhouse Effect
This assignment asked us to look at something we might have our students do, and complete it like they would. Since this class was all about Inquiry and the Nature of Science, or, how scientists actually do science, it was mostly focusing on how to introduce students to experiments. So, we had to design, conduct, and share an experiment and our findings, just like we would ask our students to. While I have completed many experiments as a student, and feel relatively familiar with the drill, it was still good to have another look and remind myself what it entailed.
