Title: EPISODE 303 - A Tribute to Jazz Legend, Stan Kenton

Time: 01/23/2013 12:00 PM EST

Episode Notes: For Beyond 50's "History" talks, listen to an interview with Art Abrams, performer at the Portland Jazz Festival. He'll talk about his background as a musician and his tribute to Stan Kenton - a musical legend of Big Band Jazz during the 1940s - 1970s, creating a Progressive Jazz sound.

The Stan Kenton Orchestra was the spawning ground of great jazz artists, such as Frank Rosolino, Buddy Childers, Bud Shank, Maynard Ferguson and many more. Kenton also "opened the door" for young arrangers like Bill Holman, Bill Russo and Pete Rugolo, who shaped Stan's early band.
