Web Publishing Policy

Goals

The purpose of the school website is to foster communication between the administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community. The school website will sever as a centralized location to access current school news, calendars, and schedules. If our school is to become and maintain a status of exemplary we must actively engage parents and the community. The website should keep with the district image, appropriately depict the school's strengths, and remain free of negative personal opinions of the district, school, personnel, and students.

To encourage all schools and teachers to create websites the district is reviewing a proposal to implement a content management engine for all district web pages. In our ever changing society the school must open itself to a two-way communication with students, parents and the community so schools are encouraged to set up a a blog to share school activities and accomplishments.

Content

Content on the school website must adhere to the standards and procedures adopted by the Dallas Independent School District style guide. It is important that names are spelled correctly and that all phone numbers are accurate. Before being submitted, all text should be spell checked and proofread by at least two people, and errors of any kind should be corrected. Time sensitive information must be updated at least twice a month to ensure it is current and accurate. To ensure that information is accessible to all parents, students, and community members the website must have the ability to be viewed in multiple languages.

Links

Teachers that have non-district educational websites, blogs, or wikis may be linked to from teacher pages. The technology committee has recommended services or websites that are acceptable for student email, blogs, and wikis. Websites and services not listed on the approved list may be approved by the principal if they are for education purposes and appropriate for the subject.

Maintenance

Each teacher and activity sponsor should will be held responsible for checking and maintaining their assigned pages. Web pages should be reviewed monthly by the principal or appointed personnel to ensure that links are appropriate and working. Time sensitive information must be updated twice a month to ensure it is current and accurate. Dates that have passed should be removed immediately. Failure to maintain accurate and up to date information on web pages could result in the web pages being taken down.

Teachers may be provided with their own personal login and create and maintain their own individual websites using the district provided templates or an approved original design. All applications must be approved before a login will be provided.

Principals are to review the schools site on a regular basis to ensure that the website comply with the district standards and acceptable use policy.

The Website manager will check regularly to ensure all users are following the Acceptable use guidelines and the style guide.

Style Specifications

All content should adhere to the specifications in the district style guide.

Privacy Regulations

A signed release form must be signed for any student that is shown in pictures, videos, and projects on the school website. A photo of a student whose parent or guardian has indicated on the form that their child's image cannot be used must not be used, whether the student is alone or in a group. Personal contact information should never be displayed for students, parents, and faculty.

Copyright

Text, photos, and original graphics on internet sites are copyrighted and cannot be used on your site unless granted permission by the copy right owner. Elements of the Dallas ISD website can not be used without written authorization.

Acceptable Use

The district and the school has the right to remove or disable any material that is in violation of the districts Acceptable Use Policy. The school does not assume any responsibility for content provided by administrators, teachers, or students. Any expected violations of the districts web policy will result in an investigation. Any district employee that is found to be in violation of the Acceptable use Policy or the Electronic Communication and Data Management Policy is subject to disciplinary action. The employee has thirty days to appeal the investigation and appear before a board of peers.

Training

Training of individuals to make changes to the school website or individual teacher websites will be provided by Communication Services. Teachers will be trained on how to ensure their website is accessible to all users.
