Dear Ms Baker,
I visited by chance your site "Looking for evidence" some weeks ago
https://sites.google.com/site/archoevidence/home/ww1australianwomen/scottish-womens-hospital
I am interested in WWI as I grew up with stories about it from my father who runs his 109th year in Έdessa, Central Macedonia, Greece. Έdessa is the town which was known as Vodena up to the end of WWI. Afterwards the old name, Έdessa, was re-established. The same happened with the village of Όstrovo, which after WWI has re-taken the old name of Άrnissa. As I come from this region of Greece I tried to locate the site of the SWH of Ostrovo, known as America Unit, and I think I can contribute to your search for evidence.
In my recent trip to Greece λ;στ ζεεκ I was able to locate very precisely the place of the SWH Field hospital:
40°46'28"N 21°51'34"
I took a number of high resolution pictures which are quite voluminous to send. So I am enclosing some downsized photos taken by me last week to compare with some original photos taken in 1916-17. The landscape has not changed much. I am enclosing also a panoramic photo of the Vegoritis Lake (then Ostrovo lake) with mount Kaymakchalan (or mount Voras) in background as well as of Salonika and Arnissa as they are now. You may distinguish on top of the Voras mountain the small church built in the Twenties to commemorate those who lost their lives during the battle of Kaymakchalan in September 1916. The level of the lake has decreased a lot since the beginning of the last century due essentially to variable whether conditions and to agricultural activity.
Feel free to share this information in your website if you think it's worth.
Best regards,
Nikiforos Sivenas
