At Volubilis an old, stopped up bath tub was used for wet sieve the heavy fraction, wash buckets and reduce somewhat water loss. However, bucket flotation in general is much more wasteful in terms of water use (but uses no fossil fuels). Machines of the siraf type. with old btahtubs turned into settling tanks for water recycling are more water efficient
This is the most intimate you will get to your archaeological sediment. So feel it.
