biography

Salvatore Maria Anzalone was born on the 10 of September 1982 in Palermo, Italy. He received his B.S. in Computer Engineering (2004) and M.S.D. (2006) degrees in Intelligent Systems from the University of Palermo. He received from the same University his PhD in Computer Engineering (2010), supervised by Prof. A. Chella and Prof. R. Sorbello at the Department of Computer Engineering. He spent his last year of PhD (2009) as visiting student at the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory, Osaka University with Prof. H. Ishiguro and Prof. Y. Yoshikawa.

He was PostDoc researcher at the Intelligent Autonomous Systems laboratory, Department of Information Engineering, University of Padova (2010), leaded by Prof. E. Pagello and Prof.E. Menegatti. He then returned back to the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at Osaka University (2011-2012) thanks to a one year grant awarded from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS Short Term Fellowship).

From May 2012 to February 2015 he was PostDoc researcher at University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France, working with Prof. M. Chetouani at the Institute for Intelligent Systems and Robotics (ISIR-UPMC). In 2013 he was awarded with a grant from the Japanese National Institute of Information and Communications Technology that he spent as Visiting Researcher at Osaka University with Prof. H. Ishiguro, from November to December 2013.

From March 2015 to March 2016 he was Research Engineer at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service of Pitié-Salpêtrière Medical Hospital directed by Prof. D. Cohen .

From September 2016 he is Maître de Conférences at Université Paris 8,  member of the Artificial and Human Cognition Laboratory (CHArt Laboratory).

From 2019 he is Co-Director of the lab's research axis Cognition and sociale interactions, modelisation and simulation, part of CHArt's Ethics Committee and associated to the Istituto per la Ricerca e l'Innovazione Biomedica (IRIB-CNR) from Italian National Research Council.

From 2021 he is Managing Editor of the Springer's International Journal of Social Robotics.

From March 2024 he is Director of the Lutin Userlab, a federative research platform part of the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie.
