Dear Friends,

I love hearing your ideas; almost everyone, including people around us, has views, hopes, even  dreams of what our church should be, what we should be doing and what our place in our community  should be. The stories of the past are lovely; our hopes and dreams really are nice; I have not heard a  ‘nasty’ suggestion from within this church. These often come with a hope or an expectation that God  will do or make us or give us what we want, what we hope for and even pray for.

I would love to see this church filled on Sundays with people, young, old and in-between. There are  some beautiful community ideas of parish dinners and gatherings; I’ve heard suggestions of study  groups. Each of these fits on the scale of good, great or even wonderful ideas, hopes and dreams and  all are surely ‘good for God’s kingdom’.

On Sunday mornings, we are in the midst of a series of Old Testament readings from Jeremiah. I  suspect (and Jeremiah tells us) that he wishes the ‘Word of the Lord that came to him’ to pass on to  God’s people was different from what God gave him; Jeremiah wished for a happier ‘Word of the  Lord.’ The people, (and the other prophets and the priests and even the king) certainly said to  Jeremiah that they didn’t like the message, the forecast judgement, that he had from the Lord God.

Jeremiah ends with good news, news of restoration for God’s people, news of hope, but this only  comes after the destruction of Israel and exile to Babylon. The people of Jeremiah’s time wanted  world peace, prosperity and happy families but they refused to listen to and follow God.  Now is the time for us to ask who God wants us to be; to listen to God’s answer and then to follow  God’s plans.

God told Jeremiah that he had good plans for the People of God and all God wanted was for his  people to listen to and to follow God’s plans. God used the image of a potter reshaping what he was  making but the people didn’t want to be shaped by God, and the consequences for those who didn’t  let God be God were awful.

Who is God calling us to be? As we lead up to our Patronal Festival at the end of the month, God is  calling us to listen and to let God shape us.

We have finished our trial of having the psalm printed – I’m interested in your feedback.  Grace and peace and hope and love,

Liturgical Resources

The Sentence

I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who  repents. Luke 15:10

The Collect

Undaunted you seek the lost, O God, exultant you bring home the found: touch our  hearts with grateful wonder at the tenderness of your forbearing love; grant us delight  in the mercy that has found us; and bring us to rejoice at the feast of forgiven sinners.  We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity  of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Children’s Ministry

O God our Father, our Lord Jesus gathered young people to him and taught that to  such belongs the kingdom of heaven; show us, we pray what ministry you would have  us give to the young children and families that are all around us; give us, through the  power of your Holy Spirit, wisdom to discern what you would have us be and courage  and power to then do what you lead us to do, for yours is the kingdom and the power  and the glory, now and forever. Amen

Allison; Andrew; Anne, James; Geoff; Pam; Debbie; Elissa; Trupti; Daphne; Lucy; David  and Rob.

For all in our community feeling ‘out of control’ or oppressed or depressed.

For the future of our diocese; if we are to continue to be a church that God will raise up church  leaders, ordained and lay.

For God to lead us to see and empower us to give God’s message to the young people around us.

Please speak to Reverend Rob or Reverend Angela if you would like someone’s name added to or  removed from the prayer list.

Why go to church? (from the internet)  Funny?

“Well, there are certainly plenty of free seats.”

“I go to hear what the pastor tells everyone to do, coz then I know what they are doing wrong.”  or not?

“I pray to God at home; I read my Bible on my own and even listen to wonderful Christian music but  in church with others it feels like worship, there is a warmth and I know that I am not alone.”

Planning Highlights

The focus of our fundraising is to maintain the historic Church building which was the original  Moggill School and will be 160 years old in 2026.

'Call for sponsorship' flyers are available at the church entry. We have five (5) sponsors to  date. Please take a flyer as you may know someone or a local business who would help. Please  check with Lainie (0407 777 882) so our approaches do not conflict.

Entry Forms will be available from mid September but having sponsorship in place first is essential.  There will be a number of categories and children and young people will also be included. Dr Christian Rowan has agreed to officially open the exhibition on Friday 28th November - a date  for your diary!

Please let us know of any ideas you might have to make this a successful fundraiser.
