Pentecost XVII – 5 October 25

Dear Friends,

I’m still enjoying our week with angels.  Last Sunday the celebration and the children’s chat and the children’s play and all of our thinking about angels is still very much in my mind.  As a child of Western Rationalism and ‘Scientific Method’, I was raised to believe that if something or its effects can’t be seen it doesn’t exist.  I don’t think that I have ever seen an angel but having now been through hundreds of direct biblical references and descriptions of the work of angels, I find them and their work for the Lord impossible to ignore.

We continued thinking on the theme of angels into our Wednesday Bible Discussion and learned even more about how God uses angels to protect us, guide us, explain things for us and even at times feed us.  After the children’s chat, I think my favourite image is of the angel who will one day be sitting on a rock waiting for God who will resurrect me when my time comes.

This coming weekend is also pretty busy. We have Moggill Twilight Markets and Church Children’s Craft (from 3pm to 5pm) on Saturday afternoon and Sunday brings the joy of a baptism in the morning service.  Perhaps it’s just as well God has given us a Public Holiday on Monday 5 October as the last day of school holidays.

We now have more detail on our Art and Craft Exhibition in November – entry forms and posters are now available!  I will send a separate email with more detail but want to thank Joanna for her artwork.

Following our recent Synod, I have been asked by Archbishop Jeremy to help him lead our diocese towards a better relationship with our Defence Force Veterans and families.  At this stage we will form an Advisory Group for the Archbishop.  He is keen to move forward as quickly as possible and to use Remembrance Day and Defence Sunday as opportunities.  Archbishop Jeremy plans to preach and to record a video encouraging greater understanding of the needs of and connections with church for veterans and their families.

Hope to see you in church.

Grace and peace and hope and love,

 ROB

Baptism - Liturgical Resources

The Sentence’

Truly, I tell you, [said Jesus,] no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. John 3:5

The Collect

God of all life, who anointed Jesus at his baptism with the Holy Spirit and declared him to be your beloved Son; inspire us, who in baptism are born of water and the Holy Spirit, to rejoice that we too are called your beloved children and, to surrender our lives to your service, for your service is perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit for ever. Amen

Children’s Ministry

Dear Heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus gathered young people to him and taught that to them belongs the kingdom of heaven; show us, we pray what ministry you would have us give to the young children and families that are around us; and, through the power of your Holy Spirit, help us to do it, for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, now and forever. Amen

Please take a flyer and feel free to invite people to participate.  As usual any queries should be addressed with Lainie (0407 777 882).

There are numerous categories and children and young people are very much included.

Diary Date!

Dr Christian Rowan has agreed to officially open the exhibition on Friday 28th November at 6pm - We have secured the Moggill Singers for that celebration.

Our church cake stall will be held on Saturday 29th November. Jill Aveyard and Del Ponsonby have offered to organise that.

Please let us know of any ideas you might have to make this a successful fundraiser.

Psalm Alternative for 5 October - Lamentations 3:19-26

19 The thought of my affliction and my homelessness
    is wormwood and gall!
20 My soul continually thinks of it
    and is bowed down within me.
21 But this I call to mind,
    and therefore I have hope:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,[a]
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
    to the soul that seeks him.
26 It is good that one should wait quietly
    for the salvation of the Lord.
