Pentecost XIII - Sunday –7 September 2025
Dear Friends,
What a wondrous time is Spring! I love the brighter mornings and the new life that we see in trees and flowers. I know that this also comes with snakes moving around looking for mates and birds swooping (nothing gets the pulse going like a peck on the bike helmet from a swooping bird) but this is a great part of God’s creation in which to live.
Many in the church view this as the season of creation; some Anglican churches are skipping the lectionary and having a month focusing on creation and beginnings. I wonder what new life God has planned for us, for us personally and for us as a church.
We are spending a few weeks with Jeremiah as our Old Testament focus and the Lord gives Jeremiah a message for those in exile in Babylon, For thus says the Lord: .. when [your time in exile] is completed .. I will fulfill to you my promise .. For surely, I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord .. to give you a future with hope.
As we think about what God is calling us to be and to do, I appreciated the reminder from a parishioner that if we want God to build a children’s ministry here, we need to begin by fervent prayer for this ministry. We need to listen to and to follow God and the only successful plans will be God’s plans, but this begins by us praying – for prayer involves us both speaking and listening to God. Children’s ministry is in the hearts of many so, we will include prayers for children’s ministry from now on.
God has a plan, and as always, God’s command is to follow wherever Jesus calls us. I look forward to seeing where God leads us, in God’s power and for God’s glory. There is however a warning to God’s call to follow Jesus. Jesus calls this the cost of discipleship and this cost or the cross that we are called to carry is our focus this coming Sunday.
Thanks to those who have asked; I had a wonderful time in Canberra; -6C overnight and plenty of snow fell onto the hills around Canberra. I had some lovely family time and some very productive veterans focused work meetings.
It’s another full week ahead; Morning Prayer and Bible discussion on Wednesday, but, I’m told twilight markets have been cancelled for this Saturday.
Hope to see you in church.
Grace and peace and hope and love,
Rob

Liturgical Resources
The Sentence
Whoever does not carry the cross and follow Jesus cannot be his disciple. Luke 14 14:27
The Collect
O God our creator and leader, you call each of us to follow Jesus as faithful disciples whatever the cost; grant to us the courage and power that your Spirit bestows, so that we may bear whatever cross you give us to carry, and to complete the work you have planned for us. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Children’s Ministry
O God our Father, our Lord Jesus gathered young people to him and taught that to such belongs the kingdom of heaven, show us, we pray what ministry you would have us give to the young children and families that are all around us; give us, through the power of your Holy Spirit, wisdom to discern what you would have us be and courage and power to then do it, for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Amen

Why go to church? (from the internet)
Funny?
“Our pastor is such a disaster, I just go to church to see what he does next.”
or not?
“Church is the only place in my world where I can find a few moments of peace and calm just with God for myself.”

Art and Craft Exhibition. Things are progressing well towards our Art & Craft Show/Competition from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 November; here is the latest update
Planning Highlights
The focus of our fundraising is to maintain the historic Church building which was the original Moggill School and will be 160 years old in 2026.
'Call for sponsorship' flyers are available at the church entry. We have five (5) sponsors to date. Please take a flyer as you may know someone or a local business who would help. Please check with Lainie (0407 777 882) so our approaches do not conflict.
Entry Forms will be available from mid September but having sponsorship in place first is essential. There will be a number of categories and children and young people will also be included.
Dr Christian Rowan has agreed to officially open the exhibition on Friday 28th November - a date for your diary!
Please let us know of any ideas you might have to make this a successful fundraiser.
