Non-coherent Communications: Differential BPSK

The modulation schemes which allow non-coherent communications may play an important role in next-generation wireless communication system as the overhead for channel estimation may be quite high in some scenarios. Here, I post a simple simulation based on differential BPSK in order to see how much gain we could demonstrate. There are two ways to demodulate the D-BPSK signals: non-coherent demodulation, that is the case where the channel information is not available and coherent demodulation, that is the case where the channel information is available. I think the performance in both cases is really not that bad.

Theoretical discussions on the non-coherent modulation can be found in several resources. My favorite ones are "Digital Communications" by John D. Proakis and "Fundamentals of Communication" by David Tse.
