The (Progressive) Schools

Recently, one of my friends has forwarded me an interesting link about the education. I think, the concept, i.e., progressive education, seems striking to me as it asks interesting questions on how we educate and how we (or most of us) were educated in the traditional systems.

I am looking at myself; I really learn something when it comes from my inside, when I care, and when I ask. We learn when we think that we need it, I totally agree. If the homework doesn't makes sense to the students, what is the point of doing that for them? Why do the students try to solve this and that problem without a legitimate reason? This may also be true for the productivity issues in the work environment.

I also liked the points on rising hands and the talks between the students during the lecture. Wouldn't the lecture be more interesting when the students conflict on one topic and try to defend their arguments and solutions?

Thank you Laura for the link!
