Professional bio:
Dr. Alphan Şahin received his B.S. degrees in electrical engineering and telecommunication engineering (double major) and his M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2005, 2006, and 2008, respectively. Between 2006 and 2009, he was with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), worked on FPGAs as a researcher, and designed hardware for information security. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, in 2013. Later, he visited Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, and Florida International University, Miami, FL, as a postdoctoral research associate and joined InterDigital in 2015. He worked and 2019 and innovated methods for IEEE 802.11 and 3GPP 5G NR standards. He is currently affiliated with the University of South Carolina as an assistant professor. His research interests are at the intersection of signal processing, communication theory, information theory, optimization, AI/ML algorithms, sequences, and number theory, emphasizing the physical layer of wireless networks.

I like math, science, and nature, from bugs to sharks. I love discussions and learning from them. I love innovating as much as I can. My goal is to be a lifelong learner.
