(DORAL-MIAMI, FLORIDA) - A Business Administration 22-year old student from Barranquilla, Colombia, Paulina Vega, bested 87 other global beauties last Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the FIU Arena, beamed live on NBC to approximately a billion viewers, to win the 63rd MISS UNIVERSE crown and title.

Her runners-up include Miss USA, Nia Sanchez, Miss Ukraine, Diana Harkusha, Miss Netherlands, Yasmin Verheijen and Miss Jamaica, Kaci Fennell, in that particular order.

Miss Philippines, Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa made it to Top Ten Semi-Finalist, along with Miss Argentina, Valentina Ferrer; Miss Australia, Tegan Martin, Miss Spain, Desire Cordero Ferrer and Miss Venezuela, Migbelis Castellanos.

The other candidates who survived the deep Top Fifteen cut include Miss Brazil, Melissa Gurgel; Miss France, Camille Cerf; Miss India, Noyonita Lodh; Miss Indonesia, Elvira Devinamira and Miss Italy, Valentina Bonariva.

Special awards went to Miss Indonesia, Elvira Devinamira for Best in National Costume; Miss Photogenic is Miss Puerto Rico, Gabriela Berrios and Miss Congeniality is Miss Nigeria, Queen Osme Celestine.

Paulina Vega, who’s been modeling since she was 8 years old, is the first Miss Universe winner who gets to wear the new custom diamond tiara designed by DIC and only the 2nd Miss Colombia to win Miss Universe title since Miss Colombia Luz Marina Zuluaga took the same prestigious title in Long Beach, CA in 1958.

Fighter of the Decade and the only Eight-Division Boxing World Champion, Manny Pacquiao, a pageant judge this year, was the first one to ask the Top Five Finalists in the dreaded Q&A segment. His question to the stunned Miss USA was “If you were given 30 seconds to deliver a message to global terrorists, what would you say?” It was obvious on TV that she panicked - that probably cost her the crown.

The other members of the panel of judges included: Nina Garcia, Creative Director of Marie Claire Magazine, Lifetime’s hit show “Project Runway” judge, and fashion industry expert; DeSean Jackson, Washington Redskins wide receiver and return specialist; three-time Pro Bowler; William Levy, TV and film actor who was previously named People En Espanol’s Sexiest Man Alive; Kristin Cavallari, TV host and shoe designer for Kristin Cavallari by Chinese Laundry; Rob Dyrdek, Dynamic serial entrepreneur and star of MTV’s Ridiculousness and Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory; Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins celebrated right fielder, two-time major league baseball All-star and recipient of the biggest contract in sports history; Emilio Estefan, 19-time Grammy Award winning musician and producer; Louise Roe, Fashion journalist, author, host of “Plain Jane” on MTV International and the upcoming TLC fashion series, “Style By Jury;” and Lisa Vanderpump, Star of hit show “Vanderpump Rules” and “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

The 63rd Miss Universe Pageant was hosted by Natalie Morales and Thomas Roberts while backstage comments were provided byJeannie Mai. Former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo’s boyfriend, Nick Jonas, Singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw and Prince Royce provided the musical performances in between the segments.
