Papers and Conferences
My 2008 view on how hardware description languages (HDLs) should evolve their numerical capabilities is presented here.
A theoretical paper generalizing analog-discrete Hilbert space isometries applicable in DSP design optimizations, and its presentation.
A proposal for a new standard (RH&H) to describe radiation and reliability characteristics of intgrated circuits building blocks (also available here). For an introduction to rad-hard see this 2003 Mayer and Lacoe paper.
A 2006 report on "Modern Numeric Capabilities in Hardware Description Languages."
A seminal paper about variable precision floating point design using HDLs (also available here), and its VIUF 2000 (Fall) slide presentation (also here).
Another presentation about radiation hardening, and the use of simulation farms in a "test once predict many times" methodology.
This 1998 colorful kick-off presentation started the effort, which lead to the creation of the standard VHDL procedural interface (VHPI). It became standard in 2008.
A 1992 paper, first to describe a natural way to use VHDL to model and analyze fuzzy if-then rule based systems.
A 1999 paper (in Word here) first to demonstrate the use of XML in multi language IP integration. HXML, the proposed markup, was re-invented and it is widely accepted now as SPIRIT.
An IEEE/CS/DATC report on the progress of the XML introduction in EDA.
