BFD

BFD is another highly-recommended e-drum VST engine.

Additional sample packs are called FXpansions (link).

There is a demo version available. It times out after 30 minutes, can not load expansion packs nor save presets.

Pros

• one can load own samples and create a multilayered instrument sample
• drum kits can be assembled from various pieces
• very realistic sounds in most libraries

Tips

When mixing pieces from different libraries, sometimes adjustments are necessary to make the drum levels similar. The best way to achieve this is to use the Tweaks tab (or Tech) and modify Trim and Ambient Mics sections.
