American Legion & Auxiliary Scholarship
Each year a Braxton County High School Senior
can apply to receive a scholarship to help with the expenses of college.
Please contact the Office at BCHS if you are interested in an application.
West Virginia Rhododendron Girls State
is a 5-day citizenship and leadership program.
It offers female high school students the opportunity
to directly experience the campaign and electoral process.
All delegates are selected by their schools, based on grade point averages,
leadership skills and interest in government and politics.
We currently try to sponsor two young ladies from Braxton County each year.
Following information from Wheeling Jesuit University
http://www.wju.edu
"Begun in 1941 under the sponsorship and direction of the American Legion Auxiliary
in West Virginia,
Girls State offers rising seniors from across the Mountain State
the opportunity to become involved and informed citizens of the United States of America.
Through the weeklong program, participants learn the importance of citizenship, leadership and patriotism,
as well as the dynamics of state and local government and the reasons behind party affiliations.
They gain a better understanding of and greater appreciation for American traditions
as well as learn government processes through simulated real-life involvement in all levels of government."

You can also help
Support Our Troops
with a prayer.
Please stop for a moment and say a prayer
for our ground troops in Afghanistan,
sailors on ships, and airmen in the air,
and for all those serving throughout our world.
Of all the gifts you could give all our troops,
a prayer is the very best one.
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families
for the selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need.
Amen."
You can have a thank you note sent
to U. S. Troops stationed overseas.
You can't pick who it gets sent to,
but you pick out the design and the message
and they will send it free from you.
