"The POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony"
We will never forget those who have not returned home.
You may have noticed our small table - it is set before us as a place of honor.
It is a table set for one.
This table is our way of symbolizing the fact
that members of our military and our families, are missing from our midst.
They are unable to be with us, so we pause, to remember them all.
This Table Set For One is small --
Symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner; alone against his oppressors….
The Tablecloth is white --
Symbolizing the purity of his intentions, and response to our country's call to arms….
A Single Red Rose displayed in the vase --
Symbolizes the blood shed in times of war.
There is a Red Ribbon tied upon the vase --
It reminds us of the loved ones - who keep the faith, awaiting their return….
A Single Lit Candle --
Shows the upward reach of their unconquerable spirit and
the Hope that illuminates the path of their return….
A Yellow Ribbon is also displayed
It represents those that have been returned and accounted for.
There is Salt upon the plate --
Symbolic of the families’ tears as they patiently waited....
A Slice of Lemon is also lain upon the plate
It is to remind us of their bitter fate….
The Glass is inverted --
Because They can not toast with us….
And The Chair is empty.
They can not be here among us….
We are Very Thankful for those returned to us.
But We will never forget those, that have not returned home.
Please Remember Your POW & MIA Service Members!
Until the day - they all come home.
