We left the three glaciers (Cascade, Barry & Coxe) and headed through the Harriman Fjord enroute to Hobo bay to look at the old Goldmine. Here are some of the pictures from the journey through Harriman Fjord..
Kittiwakes and Brandt's Cormorants sharing a rock.
Another Kittiwake Colony. Note how the nests are glued right to the sides of the rock. Luckily for them, the Sound is very calm or they'd get washed right off of the rock.
Brandt's Cormorants doing a fly by.
Some passing friendly Kayakers; some of the more colorful marine creatures in the sound.
These sealions were moving fast in a little "herd". They were so fast, I initially thought they were dolphins pacing the ship. Given that the roving Killer Whales eat sealions (the local Killer Whales live off of Salmon), I suppose the sealions have good reason to stay in a group and to swim fast.
The partially healed bite marks on this sea lion show what happens if you lag behind. This one lived to swim for another day. By the wide spacing between the teeth marks, I'm guessing it was something huge like a Killer Whale that attempted to eat this poor little sealion.
Marbeled Murrelets taking flight as the boat went by.
One rude bear letting us know what he thought about us hanging out watching him on the beach.
Happy sunning in his favorite spot.
Some of the myriad small islands in the Sound.
Low clouds over a sparkling sea.
Snow capped mountains overshadowing Harriman Fjord.
The sunlight reflecting off of the water shows the demarkation between the freshwater seepage and the salt water, the freshwater running along the top of the salt water like rivers running over a plain.
Mossy banks, lichen-covered trees and snowy mountains.
