LEGION Act

With the LEGION Act signed into law, there are now only

two (2) war eras for eligibility to join

The American Legion:

April 6, 1917 thru November 11, 1918

December 7, 1941 thru a date to be determined

Per The American Legion National website, the change in

war eras was effective immediately as of the signing of the

act by President Trump on July 30, 2019.

Until new membership applications can be printed and

distributed, Posts can use the ones below:

What Your Membership does "It's Value"

This is a document created by Department Commander James Kessler.

What it does is give you the "value" of your Legion membership in general,

and as an Iowa Legionnaire specifically.  This is a great aid when you are

New Auxiliary membership eligibility requirements

A change to The American Legion Constitution & Bylaws during

the 2019 National Convention changed the eligibility requirements

from wives to spouses of Legionnaires.  What this means is

that a male spouse of a male or female Legionnaire may now join the

Auxiliary.  While this doesn't directly affect membership in the Legion,

it is something to keep in mind when recruiting a new Legionnaire.

Each month, The American Legion produces a report that highlights

the impact that Posts have in their communities.  Everything from

youth programs to communities assisted to Veteran claims processed.

Access Granted

This is a new publication released during the 2015 National Membership Workshop.
