Today we started the backdrop for the layout's peninsula. The end of the backdrop is supported by two 2x2's that extend into the ceiling and are anchored to the floor. These will support future benchwork as well. These can be seen in the back of the first photo. The first photo is taken from the side of the backdrop that will be Akron Union Station.
Since we want to get the backdrop painted before the benchwork we had to add some temporary legs for backdrop support. One of these can be seen in the second photo. This view shows the opposite side of the previous picture. Howard Street station and the valley yard will eventually occupy this space along with the main line between Akron Junction and Akron Union Station.
The top of the two vertical 1x3's are also anchored to the ceiling. This view shows the Akron Union Station side of the backdrop, but taken from the opposite direction of the first photo. In the background you can see the westbound staging entrance (black square). This is where the tracks pierce the wall to enter the storage cabinets where the main line staging is located.
