The purpose of the workshop was to equip the participants with proper and adequate knowledge about Responsible Care® and to promote sustained performance improvement through commitment to Responsible Care® .
The workshop started with the discussion about the historical background of Responsible Care®, first started in 1985 by the Canadian Chemical Producers' Association, CCPA.
The following are the main topics of discussion throughout the workshop:
- What’s in a name-Responsible Care: Introduction of the ICCA (International Council of Chemical Association) RC® Global Charter elements (ICCA is the trade association of the Global Chemical Industry and its members include regional associations like GPCA and national associations like ACC). Overview of GPCA RC® Guiding Principles which is in line with ICCA RC® Global Charter Elements. Expectations from GPCA towards the Responsible Care®.
- Management System-Can’t Live Without It: Defination of management system and its constituent namely Top Management, Management System and Environmental Management System. Explaination of Common terms associated with management like, risk, objective, process, competence, etc. Context of organization and their role like, planning, implementing, performance evaluation and improving. Specific requirement of RC® for the Environmental Management System. The feisty Fifteen.
- GPCA® Codes of Management Practices (CoMP): Understanding of the seven codes of management practices of GPCA®,namely, Community Awarenes/Emergency Response, Distribution, Product Stewardship, Security, Health and Safety, Process Safety and Environmental Protection. Implementation of the codes and self-assessment tools. RACI-SV approach for implementing the GPCA® CoMP.
- Implementing GPCA® CoMP-Final Thoughts: Summarization of the workshop and future actions to be taken, mainly the need to align and integrate RC® Performance Measurement with organization’s Management Intent, Business Priority and Risk Management. It can be concluded that the workshop was able to successfully provide a good understanding of the Responsible Care® which would help us and our organization in developing, establishing and maintaining a RC14001®:2013 compliant management system in line with GPCA® Codes of Management Practices and its commitment to RC®.
