The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) – nicknamed Rio+20 - took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012. It was attended by 193 countries. The aim was to create a safer, more equitable, cleaner, greener and more prosperous world.
Sustainable development (SD) is a pattern of economic development in which, resource use, aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for generations to come.
Indian Astrobiology Research Centre (IARC), Mumbai spearheaded the UNCSD Rio+20 India Program. IARC committed to UNCSD to take the Rio+20 message of Sustainable Development to One Million Indians especially school & college students by February 2013.
Rio+20 India Certification Program-a short term course study available for students in schools & colleges in India. During February to March as per this program a course book and a CD was provided as the syllabus and online exam was conducted.
