Senior advisory focuses on life after high school and applying to college during the first half of the school year. During the second half of the school year, students work on their community service reflections, internship reflections, and their 21st Century Portfolio Presentations. Senior advisories need to be extremely flexible in order to help each student prepare for graduation and life after high school.
Students complete three Student Led Conferences each year. Seniors don't complete a student success plan the way that underclassmen do. Instead, they use the first two Student Led Conferences to talk about their grades and progress, begin discussing life after high school with their advisor and guests, and practice connecting their work and experiences to the 21st Century Competencies. Their final Student Led Conference is their 21st Century Portfolio Presentation, which typically lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. Students are encouraged to invite family, friends, teachers, and other people who are important to their presentation.
The work shared during the presentation is graded by the content area teacher before it is added to the presentation. Advisors help students create the presentation, whether they make a Google Site or present in some other way, and they help students practice their presentation skills, so students are ready for the presentation exit task.
