Dr Xolisa Mazibuko

Dr Xolisa Tania Mazibuko is a Senior lecturer employed in the Department of Development Studies at the University of South Africa (Unisa). Her key research focus areas include social and political explorations into social policy, poverty, rural development, and agriculture.

In her most recent scientific works, Mazibuko explored current societal issues – using decolonial paradigms to provide meaningful insight into viewing one's immediate world. Dr Mazibuko is also a member of the Tirisano Collaborative Project at Unisa, focusing on the development and offering of short courses, to offer contextually relevant content to steer academic development, research, and community engagement in Africa.

In her PhD obtained from the University of South Africa, Mazibuko offers a decolonial interpretation of social grants in post-apartheid South Africa. This study revisits current structures and the interplay between sustaining and transforming the power structures of coloniality in producing and yet preserving such efforts.
