2018 Symposium

4th Annual Academic Development Symposium

Thursday, 13 September to Friday, 14 September 2018

"Practical considerations for teaching and learning in the dynamic landscape of higher education in South Africa"

The 4th annual Academic Development Symposium, hosted by Unisa- Western Cape concluded on Friday, 14 September 2018.  This two-day long event showcased more than 120 delegates in attendance.

The theme of the symposium focused on exploring "Practical considerations for teaching and learning in the dynamic landscape of higher education in South Africa" through an academic lens of development workshops and presentations, and ended off by reaffirming these commitments.

Driven by the Director: Regional Services, Prof Patrick Mafora’s 2017 closing address; this space provided a podium to share vision, conversation, practices and commitment to pave a visionary roadmap to enhance concentrated learner support strategies at various universities.

Foregrounding themes on ‘Responsive Curriculum Initiatives’, ‘Literacies interventions to bridge the articulation gap’, and ‘The effective use of ICT and social media as teaching and learning tools’, this symposium has been an aggregation of providing an inter-institutional nexus of networking, shared practices, collaboration and commitment.

Unisa- Western Cape would like to express our heartfelt thank you to the programme director, keynote speakers, student presenters, workshop facilitators, delegates and everyone else who contributed to the success of the symposium.

Dates for the 2019 Academic Development Symposium will be communicated in due course. We are looking forward to hosting you at the 2019 symposium.
