Abstract

In this panel discussion, US participants aim to clarify comparative educational perspectives on the impact of higher education. Beginning with an overview of student support trends in the United States, panelists then share personal histories as current global college students of colour, highlighting how higher education exacerbates trauma, reinforces silencing, and excludes identities as normalised practice. In comparing South African contexts, panelists frame strategies for survival, offering critical questions for educators. The panel concludes with interactive imaginations of higher education futures that centre Diasporic Black communities and knowledges.
