I am 28 years of age and was born in Mokopane Limpopo and raised in Atteridgeville Pretoria. Matriculated from Hofmeyr High School in 2008 as one of the first batch of learners to do the current National Senior Certificate.

Started working at Unisa Directorate: Student Administration & Registration in 2009 to date and became a two times Unisa alumni during that time. My passions include education, social justice, law, and community development.

Abstract

Education, especially in the developing world is the proverbial elixir of life. Higher education can propel one’s prospect to a bright and more dignified future, with secured employment and competitive work benefits. Rising literacy levels in South Africa mean that universities will be burdened with more prospective students with the keen desire to get admission to study at a good institution and for a good qualification.

Since the adoption of enrolment management at Unisa in the second semester of 2016, the Student Advisory cohort had to grapple with tough questions from eager applicants about whether they would retain admission, and whether or not this would be in time before registration cycles close.

This paper will expand on, and record firsthand the students’ plight after lodging and having to wait for a response with regards to access and will highlight and provide suitable recommendations on how to manage general student despondency to enhance the student’s experience at the most recognisable ODeL institution on the continent.
