Director: Instructional Support and Services (DISS)

Department of Tuition Support and Facilitation of Learning

University of South Africa

Matshepo Matoane is a Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor at the University of South Africa (UNISA). She is currently the Director of Instructional Support and Services (DISS) in the Department of Tuition Support and Facilitation of Learning. In this role, she is primarily responsible for providing leadership and support on best practices in teaching and learning at a distance. To this effect, a part of Matshepo’s responsibilities involves the development and provision of professional development programmes that are aimed at building the capacity of academics for a fifth generation of distance education. She is also tasked with the responsibility of coordinating and integrating face-to-face and e-learning support services to enhance students’ learning experiences across a distance.

Over the years, Matshepo has developed a passion for research. Her current research energies are focused on conducting research that will enable her Directorate to be a leader and authority in tuition support. This is in addition to her first love, namely, to conduct research that is aimed at developing psychological practice anchored in local paradigms to ensure best fit in the understanding of psychological wellbeing within the South African context.
