Abstract
In this presentation, I intend to share the view that writing centres have a particular transformation role to play in the development of students’ academic literacies.
This role could involve that South African writing centres work towards developing a ‘coherent semantic profile’ which:
(a) can situate writing centres as pedagogical spaces in a transforming higher
education environment;
(b) can define writing centres’ distinctiveness in the higher education landscape and
(c) can assist to guide the further development trajectory of SA writing centres in
terms of theoretical frameworks, pedagogies and research.
