Book used: Machine Design: An Integrated Approach
By Robert L. Norton
Professor Tuzcu is, overall, a teacher with a unique teaching style.
Tuzcu teaches the course in a way that follows the text book and sometimes uses Power Point slides.
Tuzcu assigns homework from the book and usually dedicates time to explains how to solve it. Those doing the homework will get better grades.
Tuzcu's exams are similar to his lectures and homework assignments.
The Machine Design text is required and it is useful to follow his lecture from it.
The following are slides that the teacher uses in class.
Stress Distribution - Singularity functions
The following are homework assignments completed in MATLAB.
Ch.3 Problem 23 - Finding the shear stress and moments on a uniform beam.
Ch.4 Example 4-10 - Finding the dimensions of a beam.
Ch.11 Example 11-5 - Finding bending stresses for each of the three spur gears.
Ch.11 Example 11-6 - Finding bending and surface stresses for a three gear train.
Ch.11 Example 11-7 - Find the safety factors for a three gear train.

The following links contain MATLAB code used to acquire various dimensions of gearbox components.
Case 7B Exact - Finding the precise values for the the two diameters. Shows all work in detail.
Case 7C Details - Find the factor of safety for the spur gears. Shows all work in detail.
