Testbed
The AAL Summer School will include practical laboratory sessions hosted at the Robotic Assisted Living Tested, a home-like, smart environment where interdisciplinary research teams can work alongside people with assisted living needs and those supporting them, to co-design and test innovative solutions for healthy ageing and assisted living.
The OpenHAB smart home middleware is used to integrate different sensors and smart home technology, including:
- Ceiling mounted passive infrared occupancy sensors (PIRs)
- Magnetic switch sensors in drawers and doors
- Energy, CO2, temperature, humidity and smoke sensors
- Automated lights and blinds, Philips Hue LED lamps/strips
- Video doorbell
- Bluetooth beacons (with accellerometer)
The Robotic Operating System (ROS) is used to control the robots in the testbed.
