Testbed

The AAL Summer School will include practical laboratory sessions hosted at the Robotic Assisted Living Tested, a home-like, smart environment where interdisciplinary research teams can work alongside people with assisted living needs and those supporting them, to co-design and test innovative solutions for healthy ageing and assisted living.

The OpenHAB smart home middleware is used to integrate different sensors and smart home technology, including:

  • Ceiling mounted passive infrared occupancy sensors (PIRs)
  • Magnetic switch sensors in drawers and doors
  • Energy, CO2, temperature, humidity and smoke sensors
  • Automated lights and blinds, Philips Hue LED lamps/strips
  • Video doorbell
  • Bluetooth beacons (with accellerometer)

The Robotic Operating System (ROS) is used to control the robots in the testbed.

The humanoid robot Pepper will be available for the Summer School.
