Ground Station Design Considerations
Environmental Concerns
Compared with the harsh environment of space, the Sunwire ground stations suffer from fewer environmental design constraints, though parameters such as temperature and humidity are important. All earth-based systems will adhere to industry standards and best practices in design, construction, testing, and maintenance.
One primary concern regarding RF transmission of power is the concentrated power density of the microwave downlink . As strong RF fields may interfere with the safe operation of aircraft, downlinks will need to be designated by FAA (US) and corresponding international offices.
