Below is a sample calculation for one satellite and earth station link. There are several assumptions:

• • The prices were based on average cost over the span of 15 years

  • Overhead cost was estimated to be 30% of the transportation, supplies, and design & assembly

  • Prices were negotiated with manufactures for a good bulk rate cost

  • Efficiencies of components were calculated to the projected best estimate for the year of launch of each satellite

Overall system cost of all 16 satellites and earth sub stations estimated to be $857B.

The major factors contributing to the cost are the unit cost to ship the material into GEO and the overall efficiencies of the subsystems. Reducing the cost and improving the efficiencies will make this project more feasible and profitable.
