From the view of the WHITE HOUSE, every year on this date, as ORION rises due east, it's BELT STARS point toward SIRIUS, which is still hidden under the horizon, but will soon be rising just BEFORE the SUN. This is known as The Heliacal Rising of Sirius. A little later on, as ORION progresses higher into the sky, looking directly southeast down Pennsylvania Avenue, SIRIUS will rise just before the SUN, on a bearing directly over the CAPITOL BUILDING.
