b) Procedures and activities (step-by-step, including written out directions to students)
c) Materials needed (including handouts or ST generated materials)
d) Means for assessment (either immediate or long-term)
e) Standards (state or district) addressed by the lesson
f) Adaptations for English Language Learners and students with special needs
2. Maintain a Lesson Planning Book and Teaching Journal that contains all lesson plans, notes, feedback and other materials related to your field experience.
3. You are to be on time every day. If you are going to be late, notify your Cooperating Teacher & UNM Clinical Supervisor. You and your Cooperating Teacher should keep a record of instances of lateness and the reasons for those. More than three tardies may result in your removal from student teaching.
4. If you are too ill to work, you must call your Cooperating Teacher & UNM Clinical Supervisor prior to school on the day of your absence. Absences for other reasons should be negotiated with your Cooperating Teacher. You and your Cooperating Teacher should keep a record of all absences. This record should be available for the UNM Supervisor when s/he visits. More than two absences may result in removal from student teaching.
5. If you must be absent during your teaching time, you must provide written lesson plans for your Cooperating Teacher for all classes/subjects for which you have assumed responsibility.
6. You may act as a substitute teacher when your Cooperating Teacher is absent, since you have your Substitute Teaching License.
Evaluating Your Performance in the Classroom
Your Cooperating Teacher will evaluate your performance in the classroom, using the Criteria for Quality Teaching, which reflect the UNM College of Education Conceptual Framework and New Mexico and national beginning teacher competencies.
In order for you to demonstrate your emerging competency within this framework, you should:
¨ Develop daily and weekly lesson plans that allow students to make connections with their experience and previous learning.
¨ Establish classroom routines and procedures that support their instruction and maintain an orderly learning environment.
¨ Differentiate your instruction to meet the needs of English language learners and those students identified with linguistic, cultural and other learning needs.
¨ Address issues of diversity and social justice in the content of your courses and in the analysis of your teaching.
¨ Use available technology as a tool for supporting, engaging, enriching learning, demonstrating learning or evaluating learning.
