th 2016 marked Fownhope’s first community apple pressing day. CRAG booked a couple of presses and a “scratter”, set them up under a marquee on the New Inn’s lawn and invited people to bring along their apples and turn them into juice – and bring them along they did, with over 80 gallons being pressed during the afternoon. Some people were intending to make cider, others just wanted to get the juice, but the event was a huge success with everyone quite astonished at just how good the juice they’d made tasted – a far cry from supermarket tetrapacks!
CRAG expects to be running the event again next year, but probably for longer than just the afternoon – details will follow nearer the time. Meanwhile, many thanks to Frank Hemming for organising everything and to Sandra at the New Inn for hosting the event – what better place could there be when you’re hard at work making cider!
