For this assignment, you will create an online portfolio using Google Sites. By the end of the year, your portfolio will contain samples of your work and reflections about your learning journey. At the end of lesson you will have created a portfolio similar to the example portfolio that we created.
Watch this video to learn how to create a Google Site. These tutorials will be helpful as you learn this tool. If you do not have a Google account you will need to create one here.
When creating your Site DO NOT use the class website template—use a blank template!
Trust me, it’ll be easier this way!
After creating your Google Site complete the following form:
When you create a Google Site it automatically creates a home page so you don't have to create the page. On your homepage do the following:
Write a paragraph that introduces yourself to those who will be visiting your portfolio. More specifically answer the following questions:
Who are you?
Where do you work?
What kinds of students do you teach?
What do you hope to learn from your VCET academy?
Insert a picture (video tutorial)
Include one hyperlink to an outside website (video tutorial)
Embed a video
Video tutorial showing you how to embed a YouTube video
Video Tutorial showing you how to embed a video not from YouTube
You will create several pages that you will just leave blank for now. Name the pages the following:
Teaching Philosophy
Video Presentation
Resources
Project 1
Project 2
Project 3
This tutorial will show you how to create new pages on your Google Site.
You'll notice that links to the pages you created in step 3 were added automatically to your sidebar. However, the pages are organized alphabetically which is not the best way to organize them.
When you are finished your sidebar will look similar to the image on the left. We added the orange rectangles to highlight different sidebar items that you will be creating. The blue words are hyperlinks. Some of the hyperlinks go to pages that within your portfolio and others go to external websites.
In this section we will show you how to create and organize sidebar items. We will also show you how to add hyperlinks to outside websites.
We will need to create four sidebar items and add links in each of the sidebar items following the organization below (This tutorial will show you how)

Group Portfolio Links
This space is for you to add links to other's portfolio links. Depending on your academy, you may or may not be placed into learning groups. If you are placed in groups, this would be a good place for you to add links to your group members' portfolios. Earlier you submitted a form with your portfolio link. That information can be found here.
When you are finished your portfolio should look similar to the example portfolio that we created.
