Living Museum

Villa Sentosa, in witness to the aesthetic and cultural history of Kampung Morten, gives people a sense of place and connection to the past. Villa Sentosa represents the Melaka Malay Architecture. It is located on lot 119 on the banks of the Malacca River within walking distance of the historic UNESCO World Heritage district of Melaka City. This Villa Sentosa has kept Melaka's Malay treasures more than half a century old.

This house was converted into a private museum and inaugurated by YB Encik Poh Ah Tiam, and the museum's opening was on 11 Dec 1991. The owner of Villa Sentosa is the late Hj Hashim bin Hj Abdul Ghani who is known as a founder of Kampung Morten, and now the villa is managed by the heirs of that generation, Haji Ibrahim, who is 83 years old.

Know as Living Museum, preservation and rehabilitation is the best step to take for the preservation approach of Villa Sentosa. Since the Villa is under all four culture mapping. Haji Ibrahim, the current owner, is still living in the Villa and maintaining the Villa. The kitchen area of the Villa was changed due to termite problems and Haji Ibrahim also stated that if there is anything in the Villa that need to be replaced, it still will be kept the same original design. That is why rehabilitation is the best choice for the historic preservation approach of Villa Sentosa.
